I would like to welcome you all back after the half term break. I hope everyone is recharged and refreshed for a busy next half term.
The next class assembly will be Year 6 on Friday 8th November at 9.10am. All parents and family members are welcome to attend.
All Saints Day Mass
Today we celebrated the feast of All Saints with a whole school Mass. Thank you to Father Rob for coming to celebrate with us and to the friends and family who came to share with us.
Year 5 trip to British Museum
Y5 went on an exciting, educational trip to The British Museum. We travelled by train from Ilford to Tottenham Court Road station. Our first activity was ‘A Gift for Athena’ in the Parthenon room 18, on the ground floor. We learnt about the sculptures of the Parthenon frieze, and the architecture of the temple. We had iPads to link written descriptions to visual observation, reproduce images and develop our imaginations.
We have been learning about Ancient Greece for History in school and we were able to relate our learning at the Museum. Did you know that: The Parthenon was a temple to Athena. It was built in the Doric style of architecture, but included features from the Ionic style. It was also larger and more richly decorated than any other Doric temple and had a number of refined architectural features that made it special such as gently curving columns and base.
A reminder that the next PTFA meetings will be held on:
- Monday 4th November at 4.00pm.
- Tuesday 3rd December – 4.00pm
- Wednesday 15th January – 4.00pm
Menu Tasting Event
AIP would like to invite parents to a menu tasting evening and welcome your feedback.
The tasting evening will be held on Wednesday 6th November from 5pm in the dining hall. Please return the letter sent via clarion to the office.
Energy Saving Month
From 4th November until 4th December it is energy saving month. The Eco-committee are working hard to ensure that staff and pupils know ways that they can help us to save energy such as turning off lights and taps, ensuring computer screens are put on standby and closing any doors and windows. If we are able to save energy during this month there will be a special dress up day next term!
Serviam Star of the month
Congratulations to Charisse for being selected as the September Serviam Star of the Month! Congratulations to Raihan for being selected as the October Serviam Star of the Month!
On the week beginning 11th November, we are thinking about Anti-bullying week. This year the theme is ‘Change starts with us’. To mark the start of the week we will be having an Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 12th November. Pupils can wear odd socks for the day and bring in £1. This will be sent to the Ursuline Project in Cambodia, our Ursuline focus charity this year.
Following the announcement that a General Election will take place on the 12th December the Academy have been selected to be a polling station for the day. This means we cannot access the Dining Hall at all on the 12th. This means that the dates for the children’s Christmas dinner and for the Christmas Fair will have to be changed. Once we have confirmed the new dates we will send them out.
The Christmas Fair is fast approaching and will probably be held towards the end of November. As you know many of the stalls and the fair itself relies on the generosity of YOU the parents so we thought it would be easier and more organised to have a timetable for donations over the preceding weeks.
The front office has kindly agreed to accept all donations which can be placed in the boxes provided.
Week 1: 4th November – 8th November
Toys – any new or nearly new items that can go onto the toy stall
Week 2: 11th November – 15th November
Teddies/Soft Toys – this was a particularly popular stall last year – ‘Adopt a Teddy’ – please donate any new/nearly new soft toys that we can use.
Week 3: 18th November – 22nd November
Friday 22nd November – Bring a bottle for Non-Uniform Day
The children may attend school in their own clothes in exchange for a bottle of something nice. All donated bottles will be used for the ‘Bottle Tombola Stall’ and we would very much appreciate any kind of wine, spirit or bubbles or a non-alcoholic alternative.
International Dishes and Homemade Cakes – we would be extremely grateful for any kind donations for the kitchen or for ‘Mrs Claus’ kitchen.
Hamper Stall – due to the generosity of each class’ hamper donation the hamper stall has been very successful for many years. The class PTFA representative has probably already been in touch to start the ball rolling. Please see list below for the classes. A very big thank you in advance as the hampers really do add the WOW factor to the fair.
- Nursery: Chocolate and sweets
- Reception: Cuddly toys and games
- Year 1: spa/pamper hampers – 1 for ladies and 1 for gents
- Year 2: cookery/baking equipment
- Year 3: Christmas food/preserves and drinks
- Year 4: stationery and craft and books
- Year 5: sports and afternoon tea
- Year 6: movie night and midnight snack
Please note that there will be NO After School Club on this date to enable everyone to attend the Christmas Fair.
Prize Day Trophies
Congratulations to all the children who won their class cup at prize day. A reminder to please have your child’s name engraved and return the cup to the school office as soon as possible. These will then be displayed in our trophy cabinet outside the main office. Thank you to those who have already returned them.
Please make sure that your children’s belongings are clearly labelled. There are a number of items already in lost property. The Year 6 pupils will be displaying lost property for collection each Friday morning before school. Please be advised that if there is no name and it has not been claimed, uniform items will be sent to the used uniform shop and non-uniform items will be given to the local charity shop.
The role of class parent is to help improve communication between home and school and also to increase parent involvement. Class parents are the coordinators of support for your child’s class. They help organise support for teachers and class room activities as needed and facilitate a sense of community among the children’s families. They strengthen communication between the school and the families. Thank you to those who have already volunteered. Please see the list below.
