New Academic Year 2018-19
I’d like to extend a very warm welcome back to all of our families after the summer break and a special welcome to the new families to the school. I look forward to an exciting year during which all of our children are able to learn and develop to their fullest potential. It was a pleasure to see all of the smiling faces as the children made their way into school earlier in the week and to feel their excitement of a new school year.
We extend a very warm welcome to all of the new members of staff who have joined the Ursuline family this term.
- Miss Natasha Boyce as our new Deputy Head and Year 4 teacher,
- Mrs Malik who has joined as our new Year 5 teacher,
- Mrs Goodison who has joined as our new Year 3 teacher covering Miss Halton’s maternity leave,
- Mrs O’Connell as our teaching assistant in Reception one day each week,
- Miss O’Sullivan as our Admin assistant.
Good luck to our Year 6 pupils sitting examinations this weekend.
Meet the Teacher
These are opportunities to meet your child’s class teacher and learn about the curriculum, timetable, routines and procedures, homework etc. All of the meetings begin at 3:45pm and take place in your child’s classroom. The dates are as follows:
Monday 10th September Year 1 Meet the Teacher
Tuesday 11th September Year 2 Meet the Teacher
Wednesday 12th September Year 3 Meet the Teacher
Thursday 13th September Year 4 Meet the Teacher
Friday 14th September Year 5 Meet the Teacher
Monday 17th September Year 6 Meet the Teacher
Tuesday 18th September Reception Meet the Teacher
For the beginning of September children may wear either their Summer or Winter uniform. Nursery children should all be wearing nursery jogging bottoms, tops and yellow polos. All children should be wearing black shoes and the girls should only be wearing the revere collar shirts and not shirts that button all the way to the neck. Please note that any coats worn should be one of the two school choice: the Cheltenham jacket or the duffel coat. A reminder that all uniform is sold through Stevensons and their online shop (www.stevensons.co.uk) not through the office.
I would ask that all children are in their winter uniform from Monday 24th September onwards. The school photographs will be taken on that day.
Start of Year Mass
Our beginning of year mass for KS1 and KS2 is on Friday 21st September at 10.45am. Fr Bret will be joining us to celebrate Mass in the hall and to bless the school.
After school club will continue to take place in the Academy dining room for all children. Please ensure that your children are collected by 6:30pm. Please remember to sign your children out when collecting them from the after school club. It is very important to write the time that you have collected your child so that the after school club staff are able to keep an accurate record of pupils present. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Late Pick Up
A reminder that parents arriving after 6.30pm to collect their children will be charged. As stated in our “Policy for Children Not Collected” the school has to pay overtime to the members of staff supervising your children. I very much regret that it has become necessary to implement the charge policy.
Parents who are late collecting a child will be charged £10.00 for the first 15 minutes (collections from 6.31pm up to 6.45pm) with a further £1 charge for every minute after the first 15 minutes.
We also operate a ‘three-strikes’ and you are out’ policy, whereby repeat offenders will be disallowed from using the after school facility, although this will be exercised with discretion in the case of parents who have bona fide reasons. Late collection places enormous strain on our resources and this acts very much against the interests of the whole school. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
School Clubs and Extracurricular Activities
Extracurricular clubs will begin on Monday 17th September and letters will be going out today. Please make sure that all permission slips are returned to the office by Thursday 13th September. The club registers will be posted on the club display board outside of the hall. Remember that the clubs are on a first come first served basis and clubs may fill up. Please help us reinforce the importance of commitment and regular attendance at these clubs.
The summer fair held on 15th June raised £2, 246. We have been saving the money to purchase computer tablets for the class rooms. We will continue to raise funds for this and thank you all for your continued support.
As I am sure some of you have noticed we had some substantial work carried out during the summer holidays. New toilets for boys and girls have been added next to the Reception class.
Please make sure that your children’s belongings are clearly labelled. There are a number of items already in lost property. The Year 6 pupils will be displaying lost property for collection each Friday morning before school. Please be advised that if there is no name and it has not been claimed, uniform items will be sent to the used uniform shop and non-uniform items will be given to the local charity shop.

Email Policy for Parents and Staff
Emailing is a great medium to promote communication. We hope that its use at UPSI will contribute to our pupils’ educational needs while respecting the time constraints of our staff and parents. Consequently, we ask that you please follow these guidelines:
- Emails in the form firstname.lastname@example.org will be given to parents (e.g. Year- email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org etc.)
- Use email only for non-urgent matters.
- Do not expect all emails to be read in a too short time-frame. Staff will answer your email as soon as they can. This will depend on the importance of the matter in question and the teacher’s availability.
- Please identify your purpose in the subject line of your email message.
- Your child’s academic progress and behavioural issues are best addressed by telephone or by scheduling a personal meeting with your child’s teacher. An email message on these matters is not appropriate, although a meeting can be arranged via email.
- We welcome your ideas for field trips, guest speakers and curriculum related activities.
- Do not use this medium for personal advertising.
- Urgent matters should still be reported to the office by telephone.
- Matters for the attention of the headmistress should be addressed to the school office (email@example.com) or her PA on firstname.lastname@example.org These emails, along with letters, phone calls, drop-ins and faxes will be sorted and dealt with strictly in order of priority.
Please can you inform the office if you have any new contact details (email address, phone, address, etc.).
